After being promoted to the Premier League, Vincent Kompany extends his contract with Burnley

After winning the second-tier Championship and being promoted to the Premier League, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has extended his contract at the club until 2028, the club announced on Sunday.

Burnley won the Championship with two games remaining last month, securing promotion when the team made a one-season return to the top division.

According to former Manchester City and Belgium defender Kompany, “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start, so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.”

“With the support of the supporters, we have reclaimed Turf Moor as a fortress, and we continue to look forward to the future and the task of improving Burnley with each step.”

On Monday, Burnley will play a last home game against Cardiff City and receive the championship trophy after the game.

“We are thrilled Vincent has agreed to a new contract. He is the ideal match for how we all see the future of Burnley Football Club, according to Alan Pace, the club's chairman.

“A remarkable leader, raising the bar constantly and guiding our club to the heights we all aspire to.”

Due to Burnley's success, J.J. Watt, a former NFL player, and his wife Kealia Watt, a former U.S. international soccer player, have both made fresh investments.
