Why Are the Indian Players Wearing Black Armbands Against England in Rajkot During the Third Test?

<p><strong>Rajkot</strong>: On Day 3 of the current third Test match between India and England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium on Saturday, the Indian players are remembering former captain Dattajirao Gaekwad by donning black armbands. Dattajirao, who represented India in 11 Test matches from 1951 to 1962, passed away on February 13 after a 12-day hospital stay.He was the oldest surviving Test cricketer from India, at ninety-five.</p>

<p>Aunshuman Gaekwad, a former Indian batter and coach, was born to Dattajirao. The BCCI released a statement saying, “Team India will be wearing black arm bands in memory of Dattajirao Gaekwad, former India captain and India’s oldest Test cricketer who passed away recently.” Dattajirao, a right-handed batsman with the ability to bowl both leg-break and medium pace, led India on their 1959 tour of England as captain.</p>
